Welcome to the Titanic Wreck Site

The most famous shipwreck in history, 12,500 feet below the surface

On April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic — the largest and most luxurious ship ever built at the time — struck an iceberg at 11:40 PM on its very first voyage. Less than three hours later, at 2:20 AM on April 15, the great ship slipped beneath the freezing North Atlantic waters. Of approximately 2,240 passengers and crew, about 1,500 perished.

For 73 years, the Titanic lay hidden on the ocean floor. Then, on September 1, 1985, oceanographer Robert Ballard and his team made one of the greatest discoveries in maritime history — they found the wreck approximately 370 miles south of Newfoundland, at a depth of about 12,500 feet.

The discovery revealed a surprise: the ship had broken in two on the surface before sinking, contrary to what everyone believed for decades. Today, over 5,500 artifacts have been recovered, and the wreck is slowly being consumed by iron-eating bacteria. Let's dive down and explore.
